Aqueous Adhesives. Definition, advantages and disadvantages.

In the footwear world we can find large groups of adhesives.

With the application of both, separately, multiple processes can be carried out to make footwear. In this opportunity we will focus on the aqueous type, explaining its definition, advantages and disadvantages when applying.

Advantages of Aqueous Adhesives.

·Performance.

At first stay this type of adhesives are more expensive than others, but the benefit will be noted in terms of its performance, this reaches three times as many other glues, so its price decreases by allowing a larger production for the same investment.

In addition one of the forms of application is made possible thanks to the use of roller machines, which distribute it evenly, with this no material is wasted.

·Resistance.

Despite its water base that you might think is weak, really the result of this glue is strong and resistant, perfectly comparable to those of solvent base.

·healthy.

Their production does not pose any threat to the environment, as they are also among the healthiest when handling them avoiding burns or poisoning by rubbing/ inhalation.

·Legal.

In many countries the production and use of adhesives is an activity controlled by governments to avoid a greater environmental impact; in this type of footwear almost no law is applied that controls them since it is natural and non-toxic.

·Savings in application.

Unlike other glues, these only need a single application in the parts to be joined, these streamlines the production processes making them easier and faster as well as sustainable savings.

·Strength against UV rays.

Studies show that these types of adhesives withstand quite well the direct incidence of UV rays, as well as high temperatures in closed environments; avoiding damage to parts and the particular yellowish tone produced by exposure to the sun.

·Disadvantages of aqueous adhesives.

There are not many really the drawbacks that we find when using this type of adhesives, however it is necessary to name some considerations to consider.

·Drying time.

They need a longer drying time that allows the absolute decrease of all the water contained and thus ensure a good result.

The porosity of at least one of the parts to be adhered and the ambient temperature directly influence the necessary drying time.

·Proper conservation.

Before being used this type of material requires adequate conservation that allows it to safeguard its organoleptic properties. They should be stored under a climate not less than 5ºC and not more than 30ºC, with low humidity conditions, since once this is damaged it is not able to return to its initial state.

So much for the benefits and considerations when using Aqueous Adhesives, in a next opportunity we will analyze those that are ideal when making footwear.
