Manufacturing Process of Leather Soles.

In footwear the soles are one of the most important elements, as they are the direct contact with the surface so they must be resistant, safe, as well as comfortable.

The processes for manufacturing these parts depend on the material chosen. But generally these substrates are subjected to high temperatures or high pressures with the help of steel, aluminum or paste molds being ready to be integrated into the shoes.

Today we will detail the manufacturing process of a leather sole, one of the most classic especially if it refers to casual shoes of ladies or gentlemen.

Materials

The first step would be to choose the material to use, however as we mentioned this time we will exemplify it with leather. It is important to highlight the importance of choosing top quality materials that guarantee a good manufacturing process coupled with a longer life cycle of the shoe.

In the case of leather although it is often of bovine origin, it is totally different from the one used in other parts of the hunted, this one must be much thicker, being known as Crupón.

Die-cut.

By means of die models that can be achieved thanks to the work of specialized machinery or by means of an artisanal process of manual cutting, the long skin sheets are cut according to the shape of the sole design based on the last and the size of the footwear. In this step it is very important to know how to make the most of the material, avoiding that any damage is within the final form.

Even.

Whether it is artisanal work or mass production, there may be differences in the thickness of the soles, for this in the equalization phase they are at a thickness exactly the same for all parts.

Predestined.

Nowadays most brands rely on technology so that machines do this work that was once completely handmade. In it said machine marks through a fairly noisy process the outline of the soles thanks to the guide of a template.

Tinting of Cantos.

Through a dedicated work and with the application of special liquids we proceed to dye the edges for the soles.

Bevelling/ Modeling.

Although it does not seem like a sole is never completely flat, because a bevel must be added by means of a process of emptying and pressing on its edges that allows it to fit perfectly with the other parts of the shoe. Also thanks to the use of machinery the soles are molded according to the shape and design of each particular footwear.

Heel.

In most cases when leather soles are made they are added heel of the same material to give height to the piece, This height will depend on the requirements of the customer and is added to the sole by means of a double process of gluing and cooking that gives total quality and resistance.

Engraving.

Now almost finished the sole, for the marks is important in addition to a legal requirement to engrave the material and thus leave footprint size, logo or any other small description you want to add.

Edge polishing.

More than all a step that provides quality and elegance in which the edges are polished manually to provide a better finish to the sole.

Packaging.

With human labor is given the last check that all the soles obtained have no defects and meet the necessary conditions to be packed and processed.

According to each manufacturer these steps may vary in the search for perfect results. But this is usually the manufacturing process for leather soles.
